MEDICOPIA
Introduction
MediCopia is a system for inpatient caregiving that was
designed by hospital professionals. MediCopia's automated
computer system offers four technologies in a compact system
weighing under three pounds! These four technologies are a
handheld computer (for work order processing), bar code scanner (for
positive patient identification), thermal printer (for label
generation at bedside) and an integrated wireless radio (for receiving
realtime transmissions). Utilizing handheld technology reduces
costs, improves workflow, and eliminates preventable medical
errors. By collecting data electronically, you eliminate the
paperwork normally involved while increasing the accuracy of the
collected information in a more timely manner. Medical records can be
updated more efficiently and billing can be recorded without manual
input into the hospital billing system.
MediCopia Phlebotomy Application
MediCopia insures only validated caregivers can access
patient information. A second level of security is applied when
MediCopia reads the patients' bar coded wristband, verifying both
the patient and the ordered tests. MediCopia indicates the
tests, appropriate tubes, and quantity of tubes required for the
patient and generates bar coded laboratory labels for tube
identification at the patients' bedside. This eliminates
mislabeling because the only labels available are the ones printed for
that particular patient. MediCopia automatically time stamps
operations, providing physicians with valuable information on when
samples were drawn. All completed draws are sent, via the handheld
computer, back to the LIS (Laboratory Information System) for
reconciliation. And MediCopia's integrated wireless radio
technology allows the caregiver to receive non-sweep and stat test
orders on the handheld unit without having to return to the docking
station.
Other MediCopia Applications
MediCopia modules include phlebotomy, billing, and pharmacy.
MediCopia is being expanded to include data collection modules for
transfusion, respiratory, and EKG.
Benefits
MediCopia improves the efficiency of your caregivers by
allowing them to follow a logical flow rather that sorting through
paper-based work orders. Patient verification and printing labels
happen at bedside, reducing the cost of reworks by making sure you
have the right patient and eliminating the potential of mislabeling.
MediCopia also interfaces to your HIS/LIS so that the collected
data can be automatically integrated, saving personnel time and data
entry costs.
As you can see, MediCopia saves time and money providing
numerous benefits while reducing the cost of collecting patient data.
It increases the efficiency of your caregivers, minimizes error rates,
collects additional information, eliminates data entry costs, reduces
the time required to make data available in your HIS/LIS, and most
importantly, improves the care given to your patients. And
MediCopia can be customized to meet your specific needs.
